Tutorial on Excel Mathematical Functions

In this tutorial we will learn the list of Excel Mathematical functions and how to effectively utilize these Excel mathematical functions for the purpose of mathematical operations that we require.

ABS Function in Excel: ABS function in Excel returns the absolute value (modulus) of a number.

SIGN function in Excel: SIGN function in Excel returns the arithmetic sign of a supplied number. If the number is positive, the SIGN function returns +1, if the number is negative, the function returns -1.

GCD function in Excel: GCD function in Excel returns the greatest common divisor of two or more supplied integers.

LCM function in Excel: LCM function in Excel returns the Least Common Multiple of two or more supplied integers.

SUM function in Excel: SUM function in Excel returns the sum of values supplied as multiple arguments.

PRODUCT function in Excel: PRODUCT function in Excel returns the product of values supplied as multiple arguments.

POWER function in Excel: POWER function in Excel returns a number raised to a given power.

SQRT function in Excel: SQRT function in excel returns the square root of a number, when it is positive. SQRT returns an error if number is negative.

QUOTIENT function in Excel: QUOTIENT function in Excel returns the integer portion of Division .i.e. Quotient portion of division.

MOD Function in Excel: The MOD function in Excel returns the remainder of the division when number and divisor is passed as input.

CEILING Function in Excel: The CEILING function in Excel rounds a supplied number away from zero, to the nearest multiple of a given number.

CEILING.PRECISE Function in Excel: CEILING.PRECISE Function rounds a supplied number up (regardless of the significance’s sign), to the nearest multiple of a given number.

ISO.CEILING Function in Excel: ISO.CEILING Function rounds a supplied number up (regardless of the significance’s sign), to the nearest multiple of a given number. (According to ISO standards).

CEILING.MATH Function in Excel: CEILING.MATH Function rounds a supplied number up (regardless of the significance’s sign), to the nearest multiple of a given number with additional input of another variable called mode.

EVEN Function in Excel: EVEN function in Excel returns the next even integer after rounding a given number up. Please note that EVEN function always rounds numbers up (away from zero).

ODD Function in Excel: ODD function in Excel returns the next odd integer after rounding a given number up. Please note that odd function always rounds numbers up (away from zero).

FLOOR Function in Excel: The FLOOR function in Excel rounds a supplied number towards zero, to the nearest multiple of a given number. FLOOR Function takes up two arguments the Number to be rounded off and significance to which the level of rounding has to be done.

FLOOR.PRECISE Function in Excel: FLOOR.PRECISE Function rounds a supplied number down(regardless of the significance’s sign), to the nearest multiple of a given number.

FLOOR.MATH Function in Excel: FLOOR.MATH Function rounds down a supplied number (regardless of the significance’s sign), to the nearest multiple of a given number with additional input of another variable called mode.

The INT function in Excel: The INT function in Excel round downs a supplied number to the nearest integer.

MROUND Function in Excel: MROUND Function in Excel rounds the number up or down to the nearest multiple of the supplied argument.

ROUND Function in Excel: ROUND Function in Excel Round off the number to the specified decimal places.

ROUNDDOWN Function in Excel: ROUNDDOWN Function in Excel Rounds down the number to the specified decimal places.

ROUNDUP Function in Excel: ROUNDUP Function in Excel Rounds up the number to the specified decimal places.

TRUNC Function in Excel: TRUNC Function in Excel truncates the number to the specified decimal places. If nothing is specified then TRUNC function truncates the number to a integer(truncates the decimal places).

MDETERM Function in Excel: MDETERM Function in Excel calculates the determinant value of a square matrix.

MINVERSE Function in Excel: MINVERSE Function in Excel calculates the inverse of a square matrix.

MMULT Function in Excel: MMULT Function in Excel calculates the multiplication or product of two matrices.

MUNIT Function in Excel: MUNIT Function in Excel creates a unit matrix of specified dimension.

RAND Function in Excel: RAND function in Excel generates a random real number between 0 and 1.  With the Help of RAND Function we can also generate a random real number using the formula

RAND( ) * (b – a) + a

RANDBETWEEN Function in Excel: RANDBETWEEN Function in Excel generates a random integer between two given numbers (integers).

 

SUMPRODUCT function in Excel: SUMPRODUCT Function in Excel calculates and returns the sum of the products of Arrays that has been passed as input.

 

SUMSQ function in Excel: SUMSQ Function in Excel calculates and returns the sum of squares of numbers that has been passed as input.

 

SUMX2MY2 function in Excel: SUMX2MY2 Function in Excel calculates and returns the sum of differences of squares of numbers that has been passed as input.
